Nature Relief

June 23, 2008
D80 + 18-135mm f3.5-5.6

Last week I was really not well – painful experience & not comfortable enough to share though – two days quarantined at home, so by Friday I could not take any more imprisonment. Went out, my lame excuse was to provide myself with some Natural Healing with mind and body peacefulness piece of sh*t – what a poser.. below are some photos and for those who are familiar or live in Dublin, you can guess where they were taken from..

Minggu lepas aku tak berapa sihat, 2 hari lekat kat umah kena kuarantin, hari jumaat tak tahan aku kuar, saja je alasan kononnya nak berubat dengan kedamaian hati, phoyo sial..kat bawah ni ada 2 shots.. sapa2 yg tinggal kat Dublin, boleh teka kat mana.

Poster project 1

June 23, 2008

for the sake of giving more attention to family & especially Aiden, last weekend we made a rule (actually Masni did and I just went along) that we can not go on the internet at all, (at least before 12am), it worked out quite well because I get to spend a little more time on this little project – family poster.. taraaa.. soon to be printed on an A1 (after June pay day obviously & hopefully)

..
some photos compilation from late 2003 until recently, mostly capturing key events & dates.. if a photo speaks a thousand words, then there’s about 80k of words to tell
..
pre-digicam years not included for laziness reason..

In the light of upcoming concert this August, Metallitia did some fan-warming-up tour across Ireland (if I’m not mistaken). This is serius sh*t tribute band, they know every tab by heart which could make you lost thinking they were the real deal.

Photography challenge – low light condition. I cranked the ISO to 800, turned on high ISO NR (not sure it’s a good idea – please advise), maximum aperture & hope for the best. Results were OK. From 50+, at least 10 were acceptable.

Dublin Street Performance – at Merrion Square – just 7min walk from our place.
Space cowboy – funny man – creepy tattoos – crowd pleaser. I only stayed for his sword-swallowing act – 45min.

Very useful tips found in DPS blog while googling. Amazing how much you can learn on the internet these days.

“The following guest tip on Low Light Photography Without Using A Flash was submitted by Amy Renfrey – author of the Digital Photography Success ebook….”
“As someone who shoots a ton of low light, no flash concert photography, I feel you hit on two key points, but left out a THIRD KEY POINT, which is FAST LENSES!!!”

For me, when I’m absolutely desperate for light without a flash, I use this technique:

1. Crank ISO as high as it will go
2. Shoot RAW if possible
3. Use aperature-priority with the lowest f-stop on the fastest lens I have (f1.8 or lower if you can).
4. If that still caases my shutter speeds to be too low to hand-hold, then I might even set exposure compensation down a stop, which will increase the speed a little, and then I’ll push the exposure in post (preferablly in RAW).
5. Lastly, I’ll use various forms of noise reduction to help on the grain/noise front.”

Special menu for lunch – Ayam Percik (sedap giler.. silap takde gambar, bila nak buat lagi syu?). Farah & Andy drop-by, well actually we requested a favour – for quick look at Aiden’s ear. It’s their 1st visit as fiances. Engagement photos were shown, and I learned the term ‘post-call’. Now I can fit in easier among doctors.

Andy with his brand-new-backward-not-looking-peace-post-call pose. Also a Federer’s fan.

Hailed as the best final ever since the year of Borg vs McEnroe, nail-biting+stomach-crunching 5hours (plus 2hrs of rain delay) best match I’ve ever watched in my lifetime so far, although I was heartbroken, but it was the right man who deserved to win. Congratulations Mr Nadal (jr & snr) for the 1st Wimbledon title, unlikely to be the last, considering he’s getting stronger by the year.

Four days after got the new D80, borrowed the office tripod & did some test shots at the canal right in front of our apartment. Initially wanted to capture the sky & canal lock. Complete with umbrella, I took 20+ shots – two below are worth sharing, edited to the ‘Eye of the beholder’

4 hari selepas beli dslr baru, pinjam ofis tripod & buat beberapa test shot kat canal depan umah, sebenarnya nak amik gambar awan & lock (air terjun kat kunci canal), siap ngan payung, 20 shots edited ikut sesedap mata sendiri..

This is officially my 1st post in my 1st asrafsani.com blog. Special thanks to Azral Ramlay aka Torot / Rott, for kicking off this blog. There will be lots of backdated posts (marked ‘*’) pre-dated to this – I just don’t want my previous whining to be wasted on my other ‘cyber-space’ journal – euwww.
